Onboard Dispatchers Needed for Senior Bus in September North Hills Community Outreach urgently needs volunteers to serve as onboard dispatchers for the Free Rides for Seniors bus, which travels weekdays along Freeport Road between Blawnox and Sharpsburg. Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays and Fridays during September, from 12:45-4:00 PM. The volunteer dispatcher takes phone calls on the bus from senior citizens needing rides to the grocery store, hospital, pharmacy, etc., and helps the volunteer driver navigate the daily route. It's fun, easy and meaningful! Training will be provided by the driver at the time of the volunteer’s shift. Please contact Kerry at NHCO’s Lighthouse Pointe office in O’Hara Township at 412-449-0151.
Do You Have Any Gardening Tools to Donate or Lend? We could really use some tools (either donated or just to borrow) to clear the weeds from our garden plot in Bellevue.
- battery operated (cordless) weedwhacker
- wheelbarrow
- hedge clippers
- shovels/weed remover tool/rakes
- gardening gloves
- bottled water for thirsty, hardworking volunteers
If you can help, please contact Jen Drayton at 412-487-6316, option 2, x3210. Thank you!
Food Donations Needed! North Hills Community Outreach is requesting donations of rice mixes, canned fruit, crackers, macaroni and cheese and soup. NHCO operates two food pantries in Hampton and Bellevue, serving 350 families in need every month. According to food pantry coordinator Brandi Rukovena, “Summer is typically a slow time of the year for food donations. Most groups that donate – schools, church groups, Scouts – aren’t meeting, and individual donors are away or busy. But the need is constant.” Donations may be dropped off weekdays between 9 AM – 4 PM at 1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton. For more information, to arrange an alternate drop-off time, or for tips on conducting a food drive, contact Brandi at 412-487-6316, option 1.
