North
Hills Community Outreach...
When you need help or want to help others
The proud recipient of the 2011 Alfred W. Wishart, Jr. Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, North Hills Community Outreach is located in northern Allegheny County (near Pittsburgh). We have offices in Hampton, Millvale, Bellevue, O'Hara and Pine. All are handicap-accessible and located on or near bus lines.
NHCO's services for struggling families and individuals include two food pantries, utility
assistance, emergency
financial help, college scholarships for nontraditional adults, support groups, basic financial planning, employment coaching,
Faith in Action volunteer caregiving for the elderly, Community Auto car donation program, and much more!
NHCO serves individuals and families in all of northern Allegheny
County (map and list of communities). Some programs, such as Community
Auto, are offered across the entire
county as well as additional counties. To see a complete list of our services by service area, please click here.
NHCO charges absolutely no fees for its services (with the exception of vehicle purchases through our Community Auto program). We rely on the
generosity and support of individuals, businesses, foundations,
government entities, religious organizations, schools and civic
groups to help us carry out our mission of serving those in crisis,
hardship and poverty. Volunteers are at the heart of NHCO and we hope you'll get involved today!
Mission
North Hills Community Outreach is an interfaith organization addressing the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty.
Vision
Northern Allegheny County is a sharing community where no one is cold, hungry or alone.
Core Values
- Faith: Recognizing the love of God for everyone
- Compassion: Treating all individuals with dignity, understanding and caring
- Empowerment: Fostering self-sufficiency and improved quality of life
- Stewardship: Managing our resources in a trustworthy and responsible manner for the good of the community
A Brief History
In 1986, when flooding ravaged portions of the North
Hills, local religious and community leaders worked together to
help flood victims. This effort mobilized the community into action
so that resources offered by congregations, businesses, civic groups
and individuals were directed to the affected families. As a result,
North Hills Community Outreach was incorporated in 1987 as an organization
of People Helping People. NHCO's United Way contributor choice code is 2357.

| We need your help to win $10,000 in the first-ever Generosity Footprints contest. NHCO is one of only three charities and the only Pittsburgh-area nonprofit organization selected to participate in the Facebook-based contest. To help NHCO win, log on to Facebook through April 30 and visit the North Hills Community Outreach page or search for the Generosity Footprints application. Every check-in earns footprints. Participants can log in every day to get maximum footprints and record acts of generosity - big and small - to earn exponentially more footprints. At midnight April 30, the organization with the most footprints wins the top prize. Individual participants also have a chance to win prizes like an Apple iPad. |
