The NHCO Teen Leadership Coalition (TLC) is a group of teenage community leaders who are dedicated to helping North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) further its mission of addressing the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty. The TLC is an initiative from NHCO to more deeply engage with teens in grades 7 through 12 interested in playing an active role in making a difference for the communities in Northern Allegheny County.

The coalition may consist of passionate and committed youth leaders from any of the school districts that fall within NHCO’s service area – Allegheny Valley, Avonworth, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Highlands, North Allegheny, North Hills, Northgate, Pine-Richland, Quaker Valley, and Shaler – and will help to increase awareness of the work of NHCO and expand its volunteering and fundraising efforts. This is also an opportunity for members to build their resumes, grow their network, and learn about Nonprofit Board Governance.

Working closely with NHCO’s Development Team, the objectives of the TLC are to:

  • Organize events targeted at engaging additional teens and educate them about NHCO’s work

  • Advocate for NHCO and engage with individuals and businesses through fundraising efforts

  • Allow youth leaders to network and work closely with the NHCO staff, Young Community Leaders Board, and Board of Directors for mentoring and professional and personal development

The TLC will be led by a Teen-member Chair and managed by NHCO’s staff. Members are expected to remain in good standing by attending required meetings and actively participating in and promoting NHCO food and sharing-projects collections and fundraising efforts. TLC members are also encouraged to participate in tabling and other volunteer opportunities with their parents.
