This is Volunteer Appreciation Week!
It's also tax season, so we would like to highlight Vanessa, one of our wonderful Free Tax Prep Volunteers.
"My work as a volunteer tax preparer at NHCO and Just Harvest is something I look forward to every year. Putting my skills to use to help another person or family complete a dreaded task like taxes and receive the biggest refund possible is my own personal way of helping the world tilt toward justice and equity. The people I meet fill my cup as I hope I do for them, too."

Spring Cleaning Collection, Now through June 8
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits cannot be used to purchase cleaning items. These items are a necessity, but can be an expense that many low-income families cannot afford. NHCO collects these items and gives them to families and individuals who use our food pantries.
You can order items from our Amazon Wishlist or Walmart Wishlist and have them sent directly to our office. You can also drop off items at any of our three offices Monday-Friday. See a list of items being collected.
Read our blog about the importance of this collection at NHCO.org/blog/nourishing-a-healthy-home-goes-beyond-food.
Two Fulfilling Opportunities at Our North Boroughs Office
Do You Have Extra Time to Make a Positive Difference in the Lives of Your Neighbors?
Our North Boroughs Office is looking for a Services Volunteer. Assist staff and clients with intakes, phone calls, utility assistance applications and scheduling appointments. Days are flexible, but we kindly ask for a minimum of three hours a week.
A Tidy Ship is a Happy Ship
It might not seem glamorous, but you'll be around a great group of people. We need help with some simple housekeeping, including vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, and wiping down desks, sinks and counters, and more.

Experiences and auction items needed for Corks for the Community
Our Signature Fundraiser, Corks for the Community, is quickly approaching on August 20. One of the most impactful ways to support its success is by donating (or helping us secure) items and experiences for the silent auction.
Some ideas include:
A weekend at a home or timeshare
Sports tickets
A unique experience (lunch with someone interesting, a private tour, behind-the-scenes access)
A fun group experience (boat day, chef’s dinner, golf foursome)
Hotel stays or airline tickets
If you have ideas or would like to contribute something, please reach out to Abby Kelly at aekelly@nhco.org
