Older Adults Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator

Reports to:

North Boroughs Manager

Responsible for:
Coordinating and promoting NHCO’s Older Adults Programs and Services. This role strengthens community partnerships, engages volunteers, and coordinates services that help older adults live safely, independently, and with dignity at home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Administration and Promotion:

    • Promote NHCO’s Older Adult Services and programs in collaboration with congregations, agencies, businesses, and community partners; Promote volunteerism and strengthen partnerships with civic groups, faith-based organizations, and local stakeholders

    • Seek out opportunities and represent NHCO at community events, including fairs, tabling opportunities, and presentations at community groups.

  • Volunteer Coordination

    • Recruit, train, support, and retain volunteers for Older Adults Services/programs in collaboration with the Older Adults Team/Development and Communication Department

    • Ensure program volunteers’ needs are consistently met by working closely with NHCO’s Volunteer Staff Team

    • Coordinate season projects (Thanksgiving meals, holiday gifts, Valentine’s Day, etc) and other special initiatives as resources allow

    • Oversee the Friendly Visiting program and provide ongoing support to participants/volunteers, coordinate with Older Adults Service Coordinator

    • Host NHCO volunteer open houses and coordinate volunteer appreciation events

  • Program and Data Support

    • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and program data in relevant databases.

    • Serve as NHCO’s liaison for the RSVP Program through Pittsburgh Cares

    • Participate in the National Volunteer Caregiving Network (NVCN) monthly roundtable and share insights with staff and volunteers

    • Meet quarterly with other agency volunteer coordinators to exchange best practices and strategies

  • Direct Support and Community Engagement

    • Support older adults directly by delivering food or providing transportation as needed

    • Drive or dispatch up to two monthly shifts with the Free Rides for Seniors Shuttle as needed (driving and/or dispatched)

    • Collaborate with NHCO teams on projects that expand support for older adults and enhance community impact.

  • Other Duties as assigned

Hours:

Full time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week
Evenings and weekends as needed to perform assigned duties

Experience:

Two years of related social service experience preferred
Valid driver’s license/clean driving record required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and accuracy with data entry required

Requires:

  • Capable of managing multiple tasks with deadlines with ease and professionalism

  • English speaking with ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing

  • Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate information

  • Eye-hand coordination and ability to operate computer keyboard, printer, copier and other office equipment

  • Prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 40 pounds

  • Automobile for local travel

  • Must pass Act 33/34 and FBI fingerprint clearances, and Mandated Child Abuse Reporting training

Salary:

$22/hour

Location:

Main office location NHCO North Boroughs, expectation to visit and work from other NHCO offices and community spaces
